Cahilty Lodge’s Sun Peaks Ski Resort Guide

British Columbia is one of the most stunning provinces in Canada, especially in the wintertime. Beautiful layers of soft, white snow coat the ground and the mountains, transporting guests and locals alike into a winter wonderland. Visitors travel from around the world to enjoy the chilly conditions and all the incredible activities we have to offer.

Sun Peaks skiing is the main attraction bringing guests to our resort. During the winter season, travelers flock here from around the world to enjoy the incredible skiing conditions, offering a little something for every age and skill level.

If you’re planning a trip to Sun Peaks Resort to enjoy the skiing opportunities here, we’ve got your ultimate guide.

Sun Peaks Resort Info

Sun Peaks offers a stunning 4,270 acres of terrain, making it the second-largest ski area in all of Canada. The village base sits at an elevation of 1,255 meters (or 4,116 feet), and there’s a skiable vertical of 882 meters (or 2,894 feet).

There are three main mountains you can choose to ski when you’re here: Mount Tod, Mount Morrisey, and Mount Cahilty. Mount Tod is the tallest of the three with an elevation of 2,152 meters (or 7,060 feet) at the summit. You can experience both alpine and Nordic skiing here. If you’re new to Nordic, you can try it out with a laid-back lesson or a fun group camp.

In addition to the slopes and lifts themselves, the Sun Peaks Ski Resort has plenty to offer. You’ll find lessons and programs for kids who want to try skiing, as well as rental equipment for the entire family. If you have little ones who can’t yet venture onto the slopes, bring them to the Sundance Kids Centre! Your kids will enjoy both indoor and outdoor play (weather permitting) while you hit the slopes. Half-day and full-day stays are offered; be sure to book your kids’ slots in advance!

Sun Peaks Lifts

No matter where you want to ski, there’s sure to be a convenient lift located nearby. Across the resort, guests can access over a dozen lifts. Whether you’re looking to access one of the smaller mountains for beginners or head to a more challenging trail for experts, there’s a convenient lift right nearby! All in all, you’ll find 13 lifts, including six surface lifts, four quad chairlifts, and three high-speed quad chairlifts.

If you’re starting at the village base, you can use the convenient Sundance Express to get to the top of Mount Cahilty, which offers beginners and intermediate trails. You can also use the Sunburst Express to get about midway up the mountain.

From the Top of the World on Mount Tod, you can hop on the Crystal or Burfield lifts. Crystal takes you about halfway down the mountain, while Burfield sends you back to the base. If you’re on Mount Morrisey, the Morrisey Express can take you from the base to the summit!

Sun Peaks Trails

When it comes to picking the right trail for your skill and comfort level, you’ve got plenty to choose from. You’ll find a whopping 138 trails and 19 glazed areas throughout the resort. Sun Peaks offers both alpine and Nordic trails; try your hand at both for the ultimate experience!

Alpine trails are perfect for getting your footing and starting your skiing adventure. Start from the Top of the World, where you’ll find access to many trails including the easiest route to the bottom, the 5 Mile trail. Other beginner trails include Crystal Lane, Rambler, East Village Ski Way, and Mt. Morrisey Connector.

Intermediate skiers can find exciting challenges on West Bushwacker, Hot Shot, Lunch Time, Fall Line, Harry’s Run, and others. If you’re more advanced, check out trails like White Rabbit, Pink Flamingo, Spillway, and Rice Bowl. Finally, for the experts out there, the biggest challenges include trails like Offset, Chute, Green Door, and Kookamungas.

If you’re looking for something different, check out the Nordic trails. For beginners, head to the covered bridge and make your way down the Village trail. From there, you can head on more trails like Cottontail, Vista, McGillivray Lake, or the Whiskey Jack Loop. You can take these trails at your own pace and will have a breathtaking view every way you turn.

For intermediate Nordic skiers, mid-level trails like Whiskey Jack, Blue Grouse, Black Bear, and Great Grey are popular favorites. Advanced skiers can find challenges at the Stellar Jay Loop. The trails mentioned here are all groomed, but there are a few non-groomed trails to explore as well.
